Spitfires U9s vs Thornaby
An early start over at Eastbourne this morning, Thornaby are a very strong outfit, so the Spitfires knew they’d need to be right on it to get anything from the game.
From kick-off, Thornaby came out firing, applying pressure straight away. Wave after wave of attacks followed, but the Spitfires defended brilliantly. Stevie and Henry were outstanding at the back, looking calm, composed, and confident under real pressure. Behind them, Flynn was immense in goal, pulling off save after save and proving to be the difference in the early stages.
Eventually, the deadlock was broken — and in style. A lovely goal kick worked its way up to Benji, playing up top today, who picked out Sam with a great ball out wide. Sam delivered a perfect cross, and Max was there to neatly slot it home. A fantastic team goal.
Half-time came and went, and the second half saw a flurry of chances at both ends.
There was some excellent teamwork and plenty of standout individual performances. Special mentions go to Flynn, who was outstanding throughout and deservedly picked up the Thornaby manager’s Player of the Match, and to Stevie, who was tremendous at the back and received our Man of the Match.

🏆 1st round of the cup
U11 Spitfires V Saltburn Blacks
At our 3rd attempt to play this fixture and a long wait since our last match, it was great to see plenty of hard graft from the lads. Every single player played their part, showing heart, discipline, and togetherness from the first whistle to the last.
Today wasn’t about one moment or one individual — it was a full-team performance. Relentless effort, belief in each other, and that Spitfires mentality carried us through. Football was the winner today.
The goals came thick and fast:
Kieran adding one with confidence ⚽
Luka rounding half time off with a well-taken goal ⚽
JJ with a clinical brace ⚽⚽
Finished the game with a goal from Tommy producing a moment of pure determination, running the entire pitch before finishing brilliantly ⚽️

U11 Hurricanes
Middleton Rangers made the trip on the road for a tough contest that truly turned into a tale of two halves. The hosts came flying out of the blocks, pressing high and moving the ball sharply, which put the visitors under early pressure. That bright start paid off as Middleton struggled to settle, and the home side capitalised to edge in front during a lively opening spell.
After the break, the game shifted dramatically. Middleton emerged with far more composure, keeping possession better and competing harder in midfield. The tempo changed, the tackles stuck, and the visitors began to pin their opponents back. Confidence grew with every passage of play, and it became clear that momentum had swung firmly in their favour.

Riverside Juniors Lions U8’s V
MRFC U8’s
An emphatic start to the new season for Rangers against a very good Riverside Juniors side.
Some wonderful moments of team work and quick transitions from defence to attack. Set pieces were very strong from Middleton today and both teams really pressed each other hard for the full 40 mins. It was end to end but Middleton’s calmness and patience on the ball was the main difference. Both goalkeepers were on top form.
This was without doubt the best team performance we have produced since the team began, and it was a real joy to see how each and every player has improved drastically since the last league game before Xmas. Training and hard work is clearly paying off.
Well done boys 👏
