Middleton Rangers Under 10 match reports 2010-2011

12/09/10

Middleton Rangers Under 10’s opened their season at home to Total Soccer (aka TSC) with a deserved win. Having much of the possession and territory throughout the match Rangers tested their local rivals. Eventually both the solid defence and good goal keeping for TSC broke with a short range effort from Jamie Haycock. Supporters agreed that the final score line, 1-0, did not fully reflect the efforts put in by the team who continue to improve following promotion to Division 1. Manager Brian Haycock was chuffed with the three points and performance of all including a few notable additions to the line up. Next stop Golden Flatts in the cup.

Middleton Rangers U10 B have had some improved results recently, but were well beaten by a strong Stockton side who started brightly and took a 2-0 lead by half time. Rangers competed well towards the end of the first half, and held their own as the second half progressed until a deflected shot put them 3-0 behind and 2 late goals killed any hope of a come back.

A goal in each half were enough for a disciplined Kirk Merrington side to overcome Middleton Rangers. Rangers started brightly but were shaken by a well taken Kirk Merrington goal midway through the first half - a powerful shot from the edge of the area. The Kirk Merrington defence was rarely pressured in the second half, and a scrambled second goal secured their first victory of the season.
Rangers Man of the Match: Kieran Heffey.

Rangers secured their first victory of the season thanks to a long kick from keeper and man of the match Corey Gordon, and a Tom Yardley free kick. Kieran Heffey and Liam Hastie were determined at the back throughout for Rangers while Lucas Inglis produced a skilful performance on the right wing. Rangers forward Benjamin Riddle kept the Kirk Merrington defence occupied with some clever movement and running to complete a strong team performance.

Rangers secured their second victory in a row thanks to goals in each half from Benjamin Riddle and Harrison Hodgson. TSC's passing and movement troubled Rangers during the first half, but defenders Kieran Heffey and Liam Hastie kept them at bay. Rangers took the lead when Benjamin Riddle volleyed in from a corner. The game was put beyond TSC when Harrison Hodgson headed home Tom Yardley's cross with 2 minutes remaining.
